Leonard A. Lauder, born on March 19, 1933, in New York, is an American businessman. He is the son of Estée Lauder, the founder of the renowned cosmetics company Estée Lauder Companies Inc. After joining the family business in 1958, Leonard played a crucial role in its global expansion and enduring success. He served as chairman of the company’s board of directors from 1972 to 1995 and subsequently held the position of CEO until 1999.
Under his leadership, Estée Lauder Companies experienced significant growth, diversifying its brands and expanding its international presence. Leonard Lauder is also known for his philanthropic commitment, particularly in the arts. He has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various museums and cultural institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where he donated his personal collection of Cubist art.
In addition to his impact on the worlds of business and philanthropy, Leonard Lauder is an art enthusiast, renowned for his impressive collection of modern art.
